Juba International Airport was built in the 1960s, the original runway is currently used as a taxiway, parking with lots of United Nations’ aircraft, and the pavement was seriously damaged. A 2400m*45m asphalt concrete runway was built in the 1980s, currently tracks and cracks appeared on the runway surface causing security risks. Phase 1 of the Project comprises of rehabilitating and extending the existing runway from 2400m to 3100m, rehabilitating the existing parallel taxiway, rehabilitating the existing 2 vertical taxiways and constructing another vertical taxiway, rehabilitating the existing cargo apron, construction of passenger and service roads and drainage systems, fencing, airfield lighting system, air traffic control navigation system.
