The “Yunding No. 1” TBM Launching Ceremony was held at the entrance of the Yunding Tunnel of CCCC Malaysia East Coast Rail Link Project on April 1. Kong Qi – Vice President of CHEC and General Manager of the Project Department, Liu Jianming – Vice President of CHEC and Deputy General Manager of the Project Department, and Deng Bo – Deputy General Manager and chief engineer of the Project Department attended the launching ceremony and cut the ribbon for TBM.

“Yunding No. 1” TBM, with an excavation diameter of about 9m, a total length of 266m, a total weight of over 1600t, an installed power of 7,099 kW and a single-drill construction distance of 13km, is the mountain tunnel TBM with the largest diameter and longest construction distance in Southeast Asia today. Since the commencement of construction, the Project Department has actively overcome such unfavorable factors as the high risk of COVID-19, difficult entry of personnel, and great interference from crossed construction. In addition, it successfully completed the construction tasks at various stages, such as existing road relocation and restoration, the 78m open cut tunnel, the 181m stepping tunnel and TBM assembly and commissioning, to lay a solid foundation for the smooth stepping of the TBM.

The successful stepping of “Yunding No. 1” TBM marks the complete success of on-site assembly and commissioning, which will greatly speed up the construction of Yunding Tunnel and open a new chapter of Yunding tunnel construction. In the next step, under the premise of ensuring safety and quality, the CCCC Malaysia East Coast Rail Link Project will continue to improve the construction efficiency of the TBM and further speed up the progress of tunneling while ensuring the safety and quality, contributing to the successful completion of the labor competition activity of “sprinting at the beginning, reaching target output and ensuring progress”.
