In the Presence of Malaysian Prime Minister, the Construction of ECRL’s First Station Started Smoothly

On May 12, a ground-breaking ceremony was held for Kota Baru Station of ECRL (East Coast Rail Link) Project in Kota Baru, the capital of Kelantan. The construction of Kota Baru Station started first, marking the transition from foundation construction to station building construction, and the entry to the official peak construction period.

Anwar – Prime Minister of Malaysia, Ahmad Yakob – Minister of Kelantan, Anthony Loke Siew Fook – Minister of Transport of Malaysia, Zuki Alie – Chairman of the Board of Directors of the owner Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) and Liu Hui – independent non-executive director of CCCC attended the ground-breaking ceremony.

At the beginning of the event, Anthony Loke Siew Fook – Minister of Transport of Malaysia first expressed his gratitude to all the builders of ECRL and pointed out that after its completion, the railway will bring higher-quality and more convenient travel experience to the Malaysian people.

In his speech, Anwar – Prime Minister of Malaysia placed high hopes on the balanced development of Malaysia’s regional economy through the ECRL project. He said, “The construction of the ECRL project will be of great significance in promoting investment and business, creating job opportunities, and boosting the development of industries such as tourism and manufacturing in the regions along the line.”

Kota Baru Station is a passenger station located in Bandar Baru Tunjong, Kelantan. The station buildings include multi-storey platforms, parking lots, waiting areas for pick-up and drop-off, sheltered passageways, staff quarters and scenic green belts. After it is open to traffic, the railway will cut the travel time from Kelantan to the west coast of Selangor to four hours, making it easier for residents to travel and improving logistics efficiency.

At the ground-breaking ceremony, the project department and the owner exchanged a memorandum of understanding on China-Malaysia Railway Talent Training Cooperation Plan (PLKI-ECRL) with Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Universiti Kuala Lumpur and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology, which aims to train more local railway technicians for Malaysia through the construction of the ECRL Project.
