On May 1, No. 2 Inclined Shaft at the exit of Genting Tunnel of the East Coast Rail Link in Malaysia (ECRL) entered the main tunnel smoothly, marking that the drilling and blasting construction at the exit of Genting Tunnel is quickened, which guaranteed the overall construction progress of Genting Tunnel.
The design length of No. 2 Inclined Shaft at the exit of Genting Tunnel is about 140m, and the geology of the crossing is Grade-IV surrounding rock, which is complete. Thus, the method of “inclined shaft directly entering the main tunnel, then conducting roof ripping” is adopted, which effectively saves the construction time.
During the construction process, the project construction team made every effort to overcome such problems as steep entrance site of inclined shaft, complex tunnel geology, difficulty in entering the construction site for construction personnel and materials, and slow approval of blasting permits. According to different geological surrounding rocks, the management team of Division 7 of the project has discussed and formulated the construction plan for many times, and dynamically adjusted the construction plan according to the actual situation of surrounding rocks. In this construction plan, the new Austrian tunneling method is made full use of. On the premise of the bearing efficiency of the surrounding rock itself, the team adopted smooth blasting technology, and adhered to the principles of short excavation, strong support, early closure and frequent measurement. The whole roof ripping process is safe and controllable. Two gantries for inclined shaft entering the main tunnel and the main tunnel entering the transverse passage-way created favorable conditions for the subsequent construction of the right tunnel.
The No. 2 Inclined Shaft at the exit of Genting Tunnel successfully entered the main tunnel, which is another achievement achieved by ECRL in the labor competition of”6 Competitions, 6 Creations • Three-type First-class Cup”. Through the smooth implementation of roof ripping, the team also accumulated valuable experience for the roof ripping of the follow-up No.1 Inclined Shaft.
