On February 22, the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative by Malaysia Friends of Silk Road Club was held at the main construction site of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project constructed by CHEC in Baden Halban. His Excellency Tang Rui – Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, Huzaimy – Deputy State Minister of Kelantan , Lee Tai Kang – chairman of Malaysia Friends of Silk Road Club, Ismail – a representative of the project owner Malaysia Rail Link Corporation (MRL) and Ye Xiaoyang – deputy general manager of the General Manager Department were.present at the event.

In his speech at the event, his Excellency Tang Rui said that the Belt and Road Initiative is an important bond of cooperation between China and Malaysia, and that as a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative, ECRL is an important embodiment of deepening cooperation and friendship between China and Malaysia. He affirmed the action of ECRL actively undertaking the corporate social responsibility, and praised the project’s achievements in promoting economic development, increasing jobs and promoting employment along the line, and expected that the project could make further achievements in establishing the image and reputation of Chinese enterprises.

In an interview with the media, his Excellency Tang Rui said that the project is progressing smoothly, which is encouraging. When completed, it will bring more convenience to the residents of the east coast and promote the balanced economic development between the east and west coasts of Peninsular Malaysia. The Belt and Road Initiative will provide a strong impetus for the sustained growth of China-Malaysia trade and bring tangible benefits to the two peoples.

In his speech, Ye Xiaoyang introduced that ECRL is the largest economic and trade cooperation project between China and Malaysia, with a total length of about 665km. Upon completion, the travel time from Kelantan to Selangor will be reduced to four hours. The project has created a large number of employment opportunities along the line, providing jobs for more than 4,800 local employees, 359 of whom are from Kelantan. Besides, the project also created business opportunities for 1,800 local companies, including 1,032 local suppliers and 768 local subcontractors and consulting firms. It will continue to train more railway talents for Malaysia through the China-Malaysia Railway Personnel Training Cooperation Programme (PLKI-ECRL). When the East Coast was hit by floods, the project assisted relevant government departments in carrying out rescue and provided relief materials to local residents.

During the event, his Excellency Tang Rui and his delegation also visited Baden Halban Village, expressing their concerns and cordial exchanges with the village head and some villagers, and distributing comfort goods.
