Recently, the “Genting No. 1” TBM for the Genting Tunnel of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) Project in Malaysia has completed an excavation length of 4,000m, marking the excavation length of both TBMs for Genting Tunnel has exceeded 4,000m.

With a total length of 16.39 kilometers, the Genting Tunnel is a key control project of ECRL, a flagship project of the “Belt and Road” Initiative. Two TBMs are used for construction at the entrance in the same direction. The Genting Tunnel, a super difficult project, features unfavorable geological conditions, great technical difficulty and high construction risks. It will become the longest tunnel in Southeast Asia after completion.

In the “Building high-quality products, ensuring safety, lifting an upsurge of civil construction” labor competition in the second half of year, in order to ensure the safe and efficient excavation of the Genting Tunnel, the project construction team focused on the progress goal, safety goal and quality goal of the Genting Tunnel, and finally improved the excavation efficiency through by precisely implementing special assessment program, strengthening the training of construction personnel and vigorously strengthening the on-site quality inspection.

The excavation length of 4000m by “Genting No. 1” TBM for the Genting Tunnel is another victory in the “Building high-quality products, ensuring safety, lifting an upsurge of civil construction” labor competition of ECRL. In the next step, the project management team will actively respond to the Group and CHEC’s Science and Technology Month, carry out the activity themed on “Embracing the era of intelligence, creating the future industry”, focus on the major difficulties of F1 fault and reverse slope construction, and continue to carry out good science and technology and management innovation activities in the Science and Technology Month, so as to ensure the construction progress of the Genting Tunnel.
